a little piece of San Francisco flour history, made into something new!
made from two original 100 lb. HICO Quality Flour sacks packed for Cook Flour Co. of San Francisco, California. These beauties feature an incredible multicolored circular logo in faded red, golden yellow, and blue, complete with decorative wheat detailing and beautiful old-fashioned typography.
the original markings are especially wonderful! "BLUESTEM PATENT" appears in bold blue lettering, with "BLUESTEM PATENT" also printed vertically in red along the sides. Bluestem refers to a historic variety of wheat, while "patent flour" was a milling term for a refined, high-grade flour. the original "BLEACHED BROMATED" marking is another little glimpse into the flour industry's past, referring to the processing methods advertised at the time.
I especially love the contrast between the bright original artwork running down one leg and the beautifully simple ivory cotton on the other. The naturally aged fabric has a few little marks from its previous life, adding to its one-of-a-kind character. Finished with a comfortable elastic waist and an easy, wide-leg silhouette.
size: S-M / 28"-34" waist / 36" length (note: these pants are very forgiving • designed to comfortably fit a wider range of bodies than the letter size suggests)
made with: 2 original HICO Bluestem flour sacks / 100% cotton / ~1940s
sewn: 10/8 in California in over 5 hours
fyi:
+ best cared for by hand • machine wash cold on gentle cycle if needed +
+ made from vintage materials • slight imperfections add to its story +
+ sewn slow in california
